Goals and actions
-
Goal 1
To promote the well-being of women at all ages through education, friendship, and understanding in recognition of sustainable development.
Action: Design one project per region, to be presented at the WCI International Conference.
For example: A series of artworks depicting education, friendship and understanding, or a series of talks shared in the regions through Zoom or YouTube, with a synopsis presented at the conference.
-
Goal 2
To offer a guide for Sister Clubs to use per their own resources, structure, and potential, and to work within the parameters of their bylaws and the reality of their hometowns.
Action: An informal program that pairs Sister Clubs so they may exchange knowledge for two years. Each participating club presents a brief report at the WCI International Conference.
For example: IWC Hamburg and WIC Jakarta could each offer their members an educational series about the other’s country, developed together. IWC Porto Alegre could share a song by the children of one of its projects with WKIC, and WKIC could show those children a video, in English with subtitles, on the geography and history of Korea.
How the initiative came about
The Education Initiative started as a need to tune WCI to the requirements of the current world and to provide women with a means to contribute significantly in their own communities and worldwide. It did not start as a means to achieve consultative status with ECOSOC.
The discussions started in 2016, and the Board of Directors voted on and approved the Education Initiative in May 2017 in Cyprus.
Under the presidency of Kim Riedel (2019–2021), the Education Initiative Committee met monthly for a year to revise it: Maria Fernanda Arduino, Sunny Shin, Mara Rubia André de Lima, Vena Iversen and Linda Anderson. The revised definitions were presented to the WCI Executive Committee and Board of Directors and approved.
In January 2021 the Education Initiative Committee became part of the WCI UN Council.
