About us

Founded in 1989 by Patricia Macfadyen and Peg Robb, the International Women’s Club of Philadelphia exists “to welcome women of all cultures to the Philadelphia area and to promote friendship, cooperation, and understanding among women.”

Our members come from Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific, and about one in five are Americans who have lived abroad. Every month there is something new: coffee mornings in different neighborhoods, happy hours, language groups, a book club, cultural visits, teas and luncheons, in the city and the suburbs. We now share a clubhouse with the Cosmopolitan Club, founded in 1928.

Our founders met by chance in Society Hill in 1987 and, inspired by the international women’s clubs they had known in Copenhagen, decided to start one in Philadelphia. Part of every member’s annual dues goes to our chosen charities.

What we do

  • Monthly coffee mornings at neighborhood cafés, many run by immigrants
  • Happy hours, teas and luncheons
  • Language groups and a Book Club
  • Cultural visits and museum tours
  • Speaker programs on the immigrant experience and food insecurity
