1986WCI founded in Washington, D.C.

About us

The Women’s International Border Club keeps growing: we now have 56 members of many nationalities, including American, German, Austrian, Mexican, Indian, Bolivian, Peruvian, Iranian and Brazilian.

We mark the year with themed events, from Valentine’s Day and International Women’s Day to flower arranging for Mother’s Day, a citrus-picking breakfast on a member’s farm, a summer picnic by the sea and a Halloween costume party.

Our founder, Vilma Boettcher, first imagined a club spanning the USA and Mexico. Crossing the border made that hard, so a second club was started in the San Diego area instead, and the two clubs still meet once a year.

What we do

  • International Women’s Day and Valentine’s Day celebrations
  • Spring citrus picking on a member’s farm
  • Summer picnic at the beach
  • Annual swap event and raffle
  • Monthly birthday club
